Sanctuary Worship - For sharing at home

This is a simple service for you to join in at home. Church All SaintsThere are words to say either by yourself if you are on your own, or with any others gathered in your home. From time to time you will see a picture and next to it a web-link. When you get to that point, click on the link. You should then be able to watch and listen to a you tube link to a hymn or song or piece of music; or it will connect you to someone from the All Saints Community. When what you are watching has finished, you will need to close that screen down and that should get you back to this booklet.

Please join in aloud with these words from Psalm 95

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;

let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before him with thanksgiving

and extol him with music and song.

Come, let us bow down in worship,

let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;

for he is our God

and we are the people of his pasture,

the flock under his care.

This is the day that the Lord has made and we will be glad and rejoice in it.

Hymn

We will sing together Dear Lord and Father of Mankind – the words will come up on the screen. The video is from a Songs of Praise in Winchester Cathedral. Don’t be afraid to sing out!

Opening Prayer

Please say this aloud in your home

Be present with us, Spirit of God;

Let nothing separate us from your love.

Breathe on us, breath of God

Fill us with your saving power to

Bring strength, healing and peace.

Amen.

Confession

Please say this aloud in your homeCrosses

Almighty God, our heavenly Father,

We have sinned against you,

through our own fault,

in thought and word and deed,

and in what we have left undone.

We acknowledge before you the many times

when we have forgotten your ways

and lived selfish lives, ignoring the needs of the earth

and all those who share it with us.

For your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake,

forgive what we have been,

help us to amend what we are,

and direct what we shall be;

that we may do justly,

love mercy,

and walk humbly with you, our God.

Amen

A song to listen to

This song is more to listen to but do join in if you want to. Its title is Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) and the words are taken from the Book of Revelation.

Alleluia Alleluia

For our Lord God Almighty reigns

Holy, Holy are You Lord God Almighty

Worthy is the Lamb. Worthy is the Lamb.

Click this link – at the end of the song, click out of it or you will be trapped in a whole set of gospel songs! There are no images with this music so you might just want to close your eyes.

First Reading

One of the lectionary readings for Sunday 29 March (The fifth Sunday in Lent) is this passage from Romans 6 reminding us that ‘he who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit that dwells in you.’

Romans 8: 6 – 11

To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For this reason the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law-- indeed it cannot, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit that dwells in you.

Thanks be to God for his living word.

Hymn

We will now sing the version of Psalm 23 composed by Stuart Townend – The Lord’s My Shepherd. Once again click on the link that follows and you will have to close down the screen at the end.

Second reading

The second reading is connected to our Sunday series before Easter – The Way of the Cross. If you want to, you can see it being read by clicking the box below.

2nd Reading

We who are Jews by birth and not sinful Gentiles know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So, we too have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified

“For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Thanks be to God for his living word.

The Talk

Now listen to the talk by Mark Searle. His title is: ‘The Way of the Cross – Surrender’

Affirming our Faith

Let us declare our faith in the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Christ died for my sins

in accordance with the Scriptures;

he was buried;

he was raised to life on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures;

afterwards he appeared to his followers,

and to all the apostles:

this I have received,

and this I believe.

Amen.

Closing Hymn

Our final hymn follows on from the talk with its message of surrender. It is that wonderful hymn ‘When I survey the wondrous cross’ written by the seventeenth nonconformist minister Isaac Watts. The tune used is not the most common one but an equally lovely one ‘O waly waly’

We end our service with this prayer and a final blessing. Please say.

All our PROBLEMS – we send to the cross of Christ

All our DIFFICULTIES – we send to the cross of Christ

All the DEVIL’S WORKS – we send to the cross of Christ.

All our HOPES – we set on the risen Christ.

Final Blessing

If you want to sit quietly for a few minutes listening to a piece of uplifting music, then click the link. The music is Night and Dreams by Schubert. It is the tenderest of music.
